Wesley's Island Update

Sorry for the delay of his post a lot has been going on Since the last post.

To start with the 2nd Annual Pig Roast was a success, Many people came out and had a great time, many people loved the Kiss the Pig Contest! and special thank you to Nyla Pipes and County Commissioner Chris Dzadovsky for not only kissing the pig but kissing him twice (one on each end!).

I need to thank all of our Sponsors Sunrise Ford, Bass Pro Shops, Red Lobster, Sailfish Brewery, Christa Stone from B94.7, and Lowes. Without who's support the would never have been possible. Planning for the 3rd annual Pig Roast will commencing soon so if anyone has any ideas how to make this event more successful please let us know!

Almost of you know St Lucie County Environmental Resources has cleared and replanted the Site. I know many of you are upset of the work that they did, personally I would have preferred a more selective removal of the exotic species, but they did what they could with amount of expense and time that they had. This however gives us an educational opportunity that we should not miss. we can now have more educators go to the island with their students and measure the growth of the new plants. The Gumbo Limbo branches that were planted by volunteers are doing well and growing.

Since the Hurricane we have been unable to get to the island but plans are underway for the next survey. We are still seeking more native plants that we can take to the island. Remember they have to be small enough for transport!

On October 24, 2017 St Lucie County ERD did a tour of the River and the Estuary Approximately 30 people attended. All had a great time!

I am also trying to add a link for donations please be patient with me.

I also want to send a shout out to Men Of the Sword, for conducting a successful cleanup of Moores Creek in Fort Pierce.

I f anyone wants to volunteer for these cleanups or oyster bagging please contact James Oppenborn, at St Lucie County, oppenbornj@stlucieco.org.

I will try to keep up with this site and please email us if you wish to help and volunteer.

Remember this project is for our community and by working together there is no limit to what we can achieve!
